Blog Tour: Choices

Contemporary Romance
Date Published: January 25, 2016

Everyone makes lots of little decisions from the moment they wake up until they sink back into sleep at night. Decisions that have no consequences or expectations. But, what about the rare choices that could change everything? How do you know what is right for you?

Happiness is something you have to choose again and again, each day.

Michaela Matthews wants that more than anything. Standing in her way is a family pushing her down a specific path and the man she loves preventing her from choosing anything different. When she moves to the city for the next step in her parent’s plan, she starts to figure out what she wants - or more importantly, what she doesn’t want. She thinks she has to leave her old life behind to discover a new one. This throws every choice she has made into question. It isn’t until tragedy strikes that she learns that sometimes there is no choice at all. Sometimes you can have it all.

Jason Marks has had the kind of life where things have seemed to just happen to him, no choice involved at all. It’s a struggle for him to keep the past at bay while he tries to move forward. He is no longer the unwanted foster kid. He is a business owner, surrounded by people that love him. But, he isn’t in love. He’s not even sure he believes in it. Not anymore. At least, not until a heartbroken girl falls apart in his arms. It’s enough to make him a believer. Make him a dreamer. Enough to force him to answer that question. Do you give all of yourself to someone who might not choose you in return?

Yes. Yes, you do.

Review

I love Michelle Lynn's writing! She brings her characters to life in such a way that the reader becomes invested in them immediately.

I thought that the romance aspect was very well done in this one. I liked getting to understand the characters pasts as well as their feeligns for each other and seeing it all transform and grow.

Its a whirlwind of a read and you wont want to put it down.

Michelle Lynn is a pretty simple person. A good book and a comfy chair is all she needs to be content. She reads … a lot and is also a big TV and hockey buff. But it is writing that means so much to her. Most of her life has been spent ill and that has not changed. Soon after college she found herself unable to pursue a career with her business degree and on disability. Then she started to write and it changed everything for her.

In the years since, she has published a YA dystopian trilogy, Dawn of Rebellion, as well as three books in her New Beginnings romance series.

excerpt

I had talked myself into and out of going at least fifty times by the time Margot sauntered into my office for lunch. As per usual, she took one look at me and knew something was wrong.

“Now what?” she asked. Margot dropped her bag on the table in front of me, a hand on her hip and a no nonsense look on her face.

“I said yes, and now I am freaking out!”

“You said yes to what?” she asked.

“To Sean. I said yes to a date with Sean.”

She took a deep breath then turned quickly and sauntered her way over to the door. “Jeremy, get in here,” she called and glanced back at me as I slumped over the table. “She’s gonna need both of us for this one.”

I told them everything, starting with my mother’s insanity and ending with the phone call to Sean. By the time I finished, I was exhausted. They both just sat across from me, wide eyed. After taking in the whole story, they both sat up and shouted, “It’s about damn time,” in unison. They turned and looked at each other with a smirk then faced me again.

“You have to go,” Margot said like it was obvious.

“I know,” I sighed. “It’s just…I haven’t been out with anyone other than Michael since college, and I pretty sure my skills with a crimper will not help me prepare for this date.”

“What’s a crimper?” Jeremy said, scrunching his nose in distaste.

“Just kill me now,” I said dropping my head in my hands.

“Ignore him,” Margot said, waving a dismissive hand at Jeremy. She leaned toward me, her hands clasped together with her elbows propped up on her knees. “You’re thinking too much, as usual. This is not the start of a relationship. You don’t want a relationship right now, and neither does he.”

“I don’t?”

Jeremy laughed. “God no! You fuck the rebound. You don’t date him.”

I raised my eyebrows. I wasn’t used to Jeremy being so colorful around me. I’m still his boss.

“Exactly,” Margot agreed. “Tonight’s about fun, that’s it. Normal dating rules do not apply. You don’t have to impress him. The pressure’s off. You already know he likes you. He’s made that much pretty clear. Now all that’s left to do is make your intentions clear.”

“My intentions?”

“Yes,” Jeremy said, nodding his head in agreement. “Honesty is crucial when it comes to a casual relationship. If you don’t let him know up front that you’re only interested in sex, then he’ll get all heartbroken and clingy when it ends. Make it clear, just sex.”

“How do I know that’s what he wants?” I asked.

They looked at each other and smiled.

“He’s male and under thirty. He will be fine with this arrangement, trust me,” Jeremy said.

Sam has a slightly unhealthy love for Frank Sinatra, classic movies, and Jazz and Blues music, but her first love will always be reading. From Romance, to Thrillers, to Historical Fiction and everything in between, she loves to become a part of the story. As a writer she tells the stories that she would want to read.

Review

What a fun book cover! I actually love the way it depicts the feel of the novel.

This is a great Fantasy novel. Everything from the setting and the plot and pacing was right on. The characters felt real and I rooted for them.

One thing I wanted more from, was the ending. It is a first in a series, so some kind of opening for a continuation in the series was expected, but the ending was very abrupt.

Authors get their ideas in a variety of ways. For me, its mainly from dreams—very cinematic dreams—that stay in my head long after Ive awakened. Mostly these night flicks are nothing more than a collection of cryptic and often unrelated scenes that need to simmer on the back burner while my muse (when shes not vacationing on a sunny beach somewhere) helps to add seasoning and substance to the mix.
Ive always loved history. Way back in junior high, my mind would wander from dates, battles and treaties to musings on what it might have been like to live in another time. Family vacations always included visits to Civil War or Revolutionary War battle sites, tours of colonial houses and restored villages, which, even these many years later, serve as inspiration.
Born in New York City, I live in central Connecticut with a long-time husband, a grown-up daughter and two dogs. We also have a grown-up son and daughter-in-law, who recently presented us with our first grandson. When not writing I enjoy cooking, gardening, photography, reading, music, movies, and long walks with the pups.

EXCERPT:
Her next move was brazen as she stood on tippy toes and entwined her arms about his neck. She drew his head down to touch her lips to his, and he did not resist.
His hands roamed up the small of her back, following the seductive outline of her waistline, leaving a blazoned trail of sensations in their quake.
Her insides quivered as his mouth warmly opened and his tongue worked its way insider her mouth.
He took her face between his hands and aroused her with long, ravishing kisses, bringing to life a passion that had been dormant for far too long.
The cold Winter night did not chill her wrapped in the warmth of his embrace. Even the silvery moon that glowed overhead cast a radiance over the newly fallen snow and the couple.
She hungered for more than just kisses and knew that he could carry her to heights of ecstasy she never experienced before. She knew by the way he kissed and worked his magic over her that he was a man expert in loving a woman.
Pamela forced herself to sever their tie. As much as she wanted him in her bed, she could not rush into anything she would be sorry for later.
“You sure know how to kiss a woman, Gavin Templeton,” she exhaled as she fumbled in her purse for her keys.
“The pleasure is all mine,” he rasped.
He lifted her chin with the tip of his finger and looked at her warmly.
“I’d love to see you again, that is, if you feel the same”
“I would love nothing more. I’m starting back to work on Monday and going to take it slow at first. My schedule needs to be reworked and I have to prepare for a major case I’m committed to.”
Pamela looked away shyly for a brief moment and gathered Gavin’s hands in her own, drawing them to her breast.
“Law has been my life 24/7. I would love a reason to change that. I’m a little mystified by the way fate has brought us together. I also don’t want to rush things between us. I hope you don’t mind.” Her eyes pleaded for his understanding. “There’s so much I don’t know about you, and you me.”
Gavin grasped her by her shoulders and kneaded them softly.
“I’m not a love them and leave them kind of guy. I’m attracted to you and not because you saved my life. I was drawn to you the moment I laid eyes on you. I’m fine with slow. I can be very patient when I have to.”
Pamela’s eyebrow quirked playfully.
“Well,” he interjected, joking. “To some degree.”
She laughed and he drew her into his arms. When she tilted her head back to gaze into his eyes, he captured her lips once again and she moaned softly with pleasure.
He broke the kiss and smiled knowingly at the sound she made.
“Slow, hah?”
She jabbed his rib playfully and replied, “You keep kissing me like that, and that could change.”

My love of reading romance fiction goes back to those early years when I was raising a young family. It wasn't until much later in life I actually took up the pen to write and my first historical romance, Wind Warrior was born. I don't fit into one specific genre. When the ideas start to flow, lord only knows what category they'll fit into **wink wink **
I wish I could have gotten to this point in my career much sooner rather than later but, life simply got in the way far too many times. Because of those multiple detours, however, I have become a more passionate and expressive writer and can draw upon those painful moments in my past when I need to create the kind of raw human emotion I want my readership to feel.
It is my hope my readers walk away with not just an entertaining read but the importance in knowing, "Without imagination & dreams, we lose the excitement of wonderful possibilities."

Author Bio:
Alison Mello is a wife and stay at home mom to a wonderful little boy. She lives with her amazing family in Massachusetts. She loves playing soccer, basketball and football with her son.
After having her son, Alison started reading again and fell in love with Contemporary Romance. Reading made her happy and gave her something to do when she had downtime. As she started to read more, she started to noticed things she really enjoyed in a book and things she didn’t. She began to have ideas for writing one of her own. One day she literally woke up and started writing. She realized that if there was ever a time for her to write, it was now. She had a part time job to give her something to do. The hours at work were slow and she was bored with what she was doing, so while her son was off enjoying his friends over summer vacation she got started.
Alison finished the first book in two weeks and decided that she really enjoyed writing, so she kept going. She already had ideas in mind for books two and three, so she kept writing. That is how the Learning to Love Series was born. Somewhere along the line, one of my Beta readers convinced me that Michael, a character from Finding Love, needed his own story. That is when Alison added the fourth and final book. Alison hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoyed writing them.
She’s so glad she started this writing journey and hopes you will stay with her for the ride. Chasing Dreams is scheduled to release in April and the first two books of the Love Conquers Life series will be out this summer!

EXCERPT:
My entire body ached the moment I tried to move, so I stopped trying. I groaned and peeled an eye open, trying to understand why this morning felt so different from all the others.
When I saw the matching sets of green eyeballs peering over the ladder, one glaring and one questioning, I wanted to scream, but the air in my throat went the other direction. I gasped and propelled myself backward into the furthest corner of the alcove.
“Do you think she’s homeless?” asked Eyeballs Number One.
Eyeballs Number Two shook his head as he scanned my body. “Maybe she ran away from home.”
“Yeah, or maybe she’s a troll that lives in the woods. Are we supposed to feed her?”
“I didn’t bring any food. Did you?”
One of the boys threw his eyes around the room, as if afraid to look away from me for long. “No. We should tell dad we need a fridge.”
“And how will we keep it cold, moron?”
“Hey! I’m not a moron!”
While the boys fought, I managed to creep forward until I gripped the edge of the bed with every intention to slip down undetected.
But Eyeballs Number One saw me and placed an arm out across the other boy’s body. “Shh. She’s moving.”
My grogginess cleared, replaced by a rush of adrenaline as I stared back at the twin boys—the boys whose treehouse I’d snuck into the night before. At this realization, I straightened with a jolt. “I-I have to get home.” Panic seized my chest knowing my parents would be frantic looking for me.
Eyeballs Number Two nudged the other. “She has a home, bro.”
I bit my lip to hide my smile, happy they no longer considered me a possible troll. “Sorry. I didn’t mean to—” I didn’t know why I was about to lie, so I stopped myself. I totally meant to fall asleep there. I just didn’t mean to get caught.
“Wait!” one of them called as I headed for the ladder. I turned to see the curious one staring back at me with a sincere expression. “Are you okay?”
All I could do was nod. How could I tell two boys I didn’t know the reason for invading their sanctuary—that I had been watching them for weeks, envious of their home in the woods? Instead of saying another word, I found the ladder and moved down it, missing the last few steps in my haste. The moment I hit the ground, I accepted the impact with a grimace and took off at a sprint through the woods and toward my bedroom window. I climbed inside just as I heard my mom calling me for breakfast.

Blog Tour: Identity Theft

Fiction
Date Published: February 8, 2015
Publisher: Elsewhere Press

When the rock star she idolized responded to her e-mail, Candi was thrilled. When he started to flirt with her, she thought all her dreams could come true. The fantasy takes over her entire life, but none of it is true. The man of her dreams is not a rock star at all, but a bored office worker whose internet game quickly spins out of control.

Review

What happens when online persona's or online obsession becomes real life obsession?

I liked the fact that this novel was very cut and dry. I was never confused about what the author wanted to put out with her writing.

Relationships online can be very tricky and unfortunately dangerous. It's sad because so many relationships start off online these days.

I loved the way that this story was wrapped up in the end. I think that everything came together great!

In addition to Identity Theft, I am the author of more than 20 books, the novel Angel, the children's book A Child's Introduction to Ballet, the forthcoming Around the World in 80 Cliches and the forthcoming Oscar's Ghost, which tells the story of the postumous battle over Oscar Wilde's legacy by two of his closes friends, and numerous non-fiction titles including Blame it on the Rain (Harper Collins), Don't Screw it Up (Reader's Digest), Savior Faire (Wellfleet Press), The Encyclopedia of Aggravation (Black Dog and Leventhal), Blame it on the Rain (Running Press), and The Elvis Impersonation Kit (Black Dog and Leventhal).
