Excerpt

Daddy bought a camper. I shake my head in amazement every time I see it. It is small, but he says it is just big enough for him, Billy, and Bobby. The boys informed me that this was a guy thing. No girls are allowed. That is just fine with me.
Daddy and the boys have set it up in the woods behind the house. It is behind his workshop, so they are able to run an extension cord out there. Since it is hotter than a tater tot, that is pretty important.

They are there now. Daddy is teaching them how to shoot with bb guns. It is considered to be a rite of passage for all Southern children. It signifies the acceptance of responsibility. My babies are growing up.

PROMO Fallen Star Series

New Adult
Date Published: February 7,  2017

Working for a cranky, old hermit in an isolated house sounds like Ruby’s idea of heaven – but her boss isn't quite what she expects.

Tex is a fugitive from the rock and roll world – a tragedy abruptly halted his career. No one knows why he quit, no one knows where he is.

The two of them live in the same house, avoiding each other, until Tex screws up, endangering their lives and forcing them to move into close quarters. Suddenly, the idea of human contact seems more appealing, if only with each other. The sanctuary they have built is enough for Ruby -- the man she grows to love is Tex the hermit, not Tex the rock star -- but the outside world encroaches.

She thinks their fledgling love can’t shine brighter than the rock dream but can Ruby bear to let Tex go?

EXCERPT

O’Malley got bored, so we wandered over to look at homewares. He picked up a red bowl.
“I want this. You can have the yellow.”
“Screw you, I want red.”
“Red is my colour. If you don’t want yellow, you can have green.”
“Then our bowls will look too Christmassy. I’ll just get a red one too.” I picked up the matching red bowl.
“No.” He snatched the bowl out of my hand. “If we have the same, we won’t be able to tell them apart. Just have the yellow. Yellow’s a great colour.”
“Yellow sucks. I should have red because my name’s Ruby. You can have yellow because it’s a Tex colour.” Then I realised I wouldn’t be sticking around for too long and it was really stupid to be having an argument over bowl colours. It wasn’t like he had red bowls in his old house but who knew, maybe he’d had a red bowl when he was a kid and it was comforting to him.
“Okay, I’ll have the yellow one, but I’m having the red plate and you can have the yellow.”
He actually pouted at that.
“That will get confusing. We can’t just swap colours. We need a system.”
“I guess. We should get the blue and green too in case we have guests.”
Then we both looked at each other and laughed because, what guests?
“You know, Ruby, you are really pretty when you smile.”
Whoa, that caused a whole whirl of confusion in me. For starters, he thought I was pretty. But did that mean I looked like a total pig-dog when I didn’t smile? Maybe it wasn’t that much of a compliment. Maybe it was actually an insult. And, anyway, what right did he have to even bring my looks into the discussion? I was his employee and we had that whole distance thing working for us.
But, he thought I was pretty.

About the Author

Candy J. Starr used to be a band manager until she realised that the band she managed was so lacking in charisma that they actually sucked the charisma out of any room they played. “Screw you,” she said, leaving them to wallow in obscurity – totally forgetting that they owed her big bucks for video equipment hire.

Candy has filmed and interviewed some big names in the rock business, and a lot of small ones. She’s seen the dirty little secrets that go on in the back rooms of band venues. She’s seen the ugly side of rock and the very pretty one.

But, of course, everything she writes is fiction.

UNBREAKABLE HART is a love in midlife, second chance romance.

Alexander Hart’s gorgeous young wife, Stephanie, loves his platinum credit cards more than she loves Alex. She loves his credit cards so much she's already maxed most of them out.
It doesn't take Alex long to realize he made a big mistake when he dumped Amelia, his wife of twenty years, for a much younger woman.
When he leaves Stephanie after less than a year of marriage, Alex vows to do whatever it takes to win Amelia back.
But earning a second chance with Amelia won’t be that easy.

She’s moved across the country to start a new life, which now includes a relationship with a sexy young athlete.
And there’s Amelia’s utter hatred of Alex, and the fact that she’s vowed never speak to him again.

Even if he was the last man on the planet.
It’s going to take a lot more than Alex’s good looks and irresistible charm to heal Amelia’s broken heart.

Review

I liked the diversity of the novel. It pulls together Romance and Drama along with Real Life Issues and even some Humor elements, all of which are executed well and come together seamlessly.

It did take a while for the action to begin and the story to unfold, but once it got going, I couldn't put it down. I really enjoyed the fact that Karen M Bryson was able to surprise me a couple of times. I always like a novel that keeps me guessing.

Blog Tour: Fairly Certain

 Young Adult Romantic Suspense
Date Published: September 2015
Publisher: D&D Universe, llc

What happens when a Computer Geek challenges a Medieval Outlaw?
PETIR TAKES A ROUGH TUMBLE IN THE CONNECTICUT WOODS, and awakens in the middle of old England. His instinct to freak out is tempered by the arrival of a fair maiden wearing a bow… and arrow. In his college world, fair maiden types don’t ordinarily go for computer geek types, but for some reason he is no longer in his world. Petir is fairly certain he can try whatever he wants without consequence.
WITH THE CONFLICT BETWEEN THE ROYALS ESCALATING, MAID RIANNE has joined the outlaws hiding in the woods, outwardly defying the handsome and accomplished knight to whom she is promised. She is fairly certain she is simply flattered by Lord Petir’s uncensored admiration of her skills with the staff and bow, the same unmaidenly pursuits disdained by her knight. But, that does not explain her reaction to Lord Petir’s unguarded gaze.
TO PETIR’S DELIGHT, AND MAID RIANNE’S DISMAY, the outlaws invite him to join their merry band. What better way to get close to her? Throwing caution to the wind, Petir decides he has nothing to lose by pursuing Maid Rianne, until she is captured by the enemy. Now, a geek with no ability to defend himself must find a way to rescue the fair maiden.

Review

This is a novel with quite a bit going on. There are a lot of moving parts and while in the beginning it can be a bit difficult to wade through everything, Deborah Ann Davis does a great job of pulling everything together for the reader.

I found the Suspense aspect to be very well executed. I was surprised and kept on the edge of my seat while reading.

I am a huge fan of Deborah Ann Davis's writing style. She is superb at pacing and plot development.

I was super shocked by several things that happened along the way.
