In the jungles of coastal Mexico, twelve-year-old Kazu Danser is on the run, his bloody past haunting and attempting to be his ruination. Hot on his heals is journalist Carson Staines, a deadly madman full of blood thirst and greed, determined to first chronicle Kazu’s criminal life – and then end it. Staines must nail him down, dead or alive; the boy being worth a huge payoff.

Making a perilous crossing of the border into the States, Kazu fights for his life, desperately heading east. Entering sunburnt Florida, he teams up with a gang of Floridian street urchins, known to the authorities as, “The disposables.”

With Staines not letting up on the chase, Kazu and the other youths go on the run, fighting for their lives.

Can the Disposables and Kazu survive?

What will they have to do to stop the murderous and resourceful monster mowing through them to get to his reward?

The second part of the book takes place in the shadows of Florida, where street urchins fights every day to survive, both bodily and in spirit. In contrast to the tropical beaches and teeming vacationers, the children will do anything necessary to keep their heads above the perilous deep waters.

PROMO: Aslan Running Joy

Young Adult Contemporary (General and Christian markets)

Publisher: CrossLink Publishing

Date Published: June 1st, 2021

First choices out. Second choices in.

It’s been that way since dialysis left fourteen-year-old Krissy disabled. Her limitations went from none to a ton, and now they stand in the way of her dream—to compete in dog agility with her new sheltie pup, Aslan.

She’s seen videos of agility handlers sprinting, spinning, and twisting as they race with their dogs through the intricate obstacle courses. It’s a beautiful sport. Like dance. Like art.

And surely impossible for someone like her.

Her suspicions are confirmed when an agility instructor says Krissy’s inability to run will keep her and Aslan from successfully competing against other lightning-fast agility teams and suggests Krissy choose a less physically demanding, second-choice dog sport.

Second choices—once again.

And on top of all that, Krissy is pretty sure she doesn’t even like her own dog.

PROMO: Moonlighting

TV history

Date Published: 6/1/2021

Publisher: The Fayetteville Mafia Press

Once upon a time ABC-TV’s Moonlighting was among the most buzzed-about shows in the country, thanks largely to the bravado of creator Glenn Gordon Caron, who never met a television convention he didn’t want to break, and the sizzling on-screen chemistry between glamorous erstwhile film star Cybill Shepherd and a New Jersey bartender nobody had ever heard of before named Bruce Willis, who bickered and flirted ceaselessly on screen and engaged in epic off-screen battles that all these years later remain the stuff of Hollywood legend. This combustible blend of creative brilliance produced some of the most acclaimed, audacious, and innovative programming of the eighties, including a black and white tribute to film noir, with an introduction by Orson Welles; a parody of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, written in iambic pentameter; an homage to The Honeymooners; and countless metafictive episodes breaking through the fourth wall — almost unheard of at the time for hourlong comedy-dramas. Without a doubt, Moonlighting helped pave the way for the era of prestige television we are now all enjoying.

The real story of this pioneering television series and the extraordinary behind-the-scenes challenges, battles, and rewards has never been told — until now. Author Scott Ryan (The Last Days of Letterman, thirtysomething at thirty: an oral history, The Blue Rose, Scott Luck Stories) interviews over twenty people, including the actors, writers, directors, and producers who made Moonlighting such a dynamic, unforgettable show, delving deep into their thoughts and feelings as they relive this magical moment in pop culture history in this full color oral history.

Excerpt

Letter To The Reader

There are probably an infinite number of reasons why you might be drawn to take time out of your life to read this book. Whatever the reason, I thank you.

As a student of life, a Goddess, creating my own unique world I have always been fascinated by people, and their stories. I have noticed how their quality of life is coloured by the nature of their closest relationships.

One relationship, we often overlook, is the most intimate relationship of all, the one we have with ourselves. This is the foundation to everything.

What do we really desire? What are we willing to negotiate? Where do our boundaries lay? What is non-negotiable?

One thing we can be sure of is that all relationships are here to teach us, and the depths we are willing to go to, will proportionately reward us with our deepest desires.

Furthermore, life teaches us. As we grow we gather experiences and form opinions. Those opinions change according to our perceptions at any given time. In order to get the most out of life we need to delve deeper, beyond mere opinion.

Unfortunately, the vast majority of life is experienced through the subconscious mind. Here, we store unresolved issues from the past. They come up time and time again, to be recognised and healed. Our relationships, especially our closest, are where it will play out the most. Imagine if we cleared out the subconscious mind? Imagine if we could be more present in the current moment. Imagine what our relationships would look like if we did not project our past onto them, thus dictating the same outcomes over and over.

It takes a brave soul to really look inwardly. In the beginning, we may not like what we see. It is through true examination, with the discipline it takes to keep going, that we reach the goal of tender compassion towards oneself. Only then can we authentically extend compassion to others.

This book invites you to take a glimpse at the way we relate to each other as men and women, how this is magnified through the looking glass of dating Apps, and how to navigate the conundrums these inevitably generate.

I’ve been through the maze and learned from the experiences. Men and women have regularly asked me for advice and so I wrote this book, generated a website, and fostered engagement on social media to tease out the learning points and create better understanding and more LOVE between men and women.

If you would like to connect please feel free to email me, at thelovedoctor@onceuponatinder.com or check out my website onceuponatinder.com.

If you would like to know more about the tools that I have studied to help me navigate life I’d be delighted to share more information with you. There is a Path towards self-mastery, which helps us become the best version of ourselves and it’s here for everyone to explore.

Personally, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you every JOY as you create your own adventure into LOVE. Remember, stay safe, choose wisely, trust your gut and honour yourself.

 With my LOVE always,

 Dr Ann

Solomon

The man of the house since my father’s death at sixteen, I knew I’d be the guardian for my sister, Susan, who has Down syndrome. However, I didn’t realize I’d become her guardian while dealing with my mother’s mini-strokes, rehabilitation, and selling the family home. I’m drowning in paperwork and emotions as I try to get Susan adjusted. A new care plan and a specialized school act as light at the end of the tunnel. I never expected to find her new best friend at the school was my old high school crush.

Ezra

Now he’s back as the guardian of a student, and the years have been exceedingly kind. My habit of following rules is suddenly out the window. Risking the reputation I’ve worked so hard to gain isn’t on my to-do list.

True crime/memoir

Date Published: June 1, 2021

Publisher: Kallisto Gaia Press

Perpetrator. Bystander. Victim. Krystal Riordan watched as her boyfriend beat a drunk teenager to death in a vermin-infested hotel room. Could she have stopped it? Could she be his next victim? She is serving the maximum 30-year sentence while the man who beat the young woman to death is about to be released. This is no anomaly. Studies show over 80% of women who fail to stop their partner from committing a violent crime serve more prison time than the perpetrator. What does it take to survive in a maximum-security lockdown for 30 years? Is it possible to thrive? The answers only lead to more questions.

Excerpt

Somehow, the angels’ wings kept me alive long enough

to find out I wasn’t doing 30 years, but sentenced to nine years.

Lucy Weems, Inmate #781192

Her father, alarmed by the Public Defender’s 30 years, manages to hire a real attorney, and then everything changes. The facts of the case become distortions. He examines the evidence and gets much of it thrown out—blurry video footage, tainted DNA exhibits. The plea deal’s 30 years gets dropped to 15 and then to 9. Lucy accepts the 9 years and will be transported to Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women to begin serving her time. Ramón, the hard-core dealer who bullied his customers and sold tainted dope, shows up at the sentencing and claims he’ll be traumatized for life.

&

In the doggie wagon van the sun has gone out, and Lucy sits with her head bowed. There’s no room to straighten up without hitting the van’s roof. Better to contemplate the shackles around her ankles and the handcuffs encircling her wrists. Soon she’ll add inmate to her list—a college graduate, a flutist, an artist, a mother, a wife, an accountant, a heroin addict, a prostitute, and an armed robber and kidnapper.

Maybe it rains only inside her or the doggie wagon. The same kind of van that Animal Control transports stray dogs in. All afternoon it’s been the gray overcast that makes you feel like you’re floating inside the steam that rises off a kettle. Yet she’s high on being out of Cell 1313. She’s interested in her neighbors, her fellow prisoners, and the noises of the interstate. Instead of how the jailed world sounded—the outside muffled and half drowned. After being in solitary confinement for a year, the breathing and shuffling of her neighbors being transported to prison is music.

&

You can feel the highway but not see it. One of the other prisoners says she’s from Newark and the other from Camden. The Newark girl violated her parole and she’s on her way back to EMCF. This is her return trip past the cliffs of Weehawken, past the sea-oats sloughs that once flourished and now are a toxic nothingness that ducks putter through.

So long, Newark, all dying cathedrals and abandoned factories. So long, tall clusters of trees, poplar and hickory. The Ironbound section—foreclosure storefronts, mosques, flu shots advertised $24.99. All the doggie wagon ladies have tasted the dark matter bubbling at the universe’s core, the trapdoor that leads to the street, the homeless shelter, or prison. Like Lucy, the other shackled women bow their heads and to God, glancing down from the clouds, it looks like they’re praying.

YA Fantasy

Date Published: 3/17/21

Publisher: Winter Goose Publishing

Fifteen-year-old Monte moves to the mystically jeopardized Highlands of Scotland and discovers that life as a Celtic wizard is anything but easy. Whisperings of abnormal enchantments and vicious cat siths grip the small town he now calls home. Fear is at the helm and the instigator is unknown. An indefinite moratorium on magic is enforced. In a race against darkness, Monte and his friends must choose who to trust before time runs out, even if it means breaking some rules and facing danger head on.

Excerpt

“I’m not like you, Garrick. I’d rather pour lemon juice over a freshly picked scab than read,”

Monte said. “Besides, even if I did fancy some literary education, it wouldn’t matter since we’re

moving to the Highlands of Scotland tomorrow,” he added in perfect imitation of Mr. Darrow

and his Scottish brogue. He lifted his shirt to reveal his slender physique. “Wanna see my pec

Dance?”

“You’re such a twerp.” Garrick pushed Monte aside.

“Well at least I don’t have stretch marks from pumping too much iron.”

While Monte lacked the impressive physicality of his older brother, his crooked grin and playful

eyes did prove that he was, indeed, a Darrow. For every pound of muscle Garrick carried, Monte

had the same amount of wit. Monte had Mr. Darrow’s Scottish blood to thank for that, although

his long gangly limbs hardly passed him off as a rugged Highlander.
