Baptism: is it from men or from Heaven?
This is the same question Jesus asked the Pharisees in Matthew 21:25 and the same question we must answer today.
This is a book for the committed follower of Christ and not the casual inquirer. It is an examination into the comprehensive truth of what the Bible teaches regarding God's administration of baptism upon His people.
Mark David Cooper performs a deep analysis of God instilling His grace on His followers through a fivefold baptism: living water, the Trinity, the Holy Spirit, fire, and Christ's blood. He challenges the reader to move past common, elementary understandings and grasp the mature, biblical concept of one gracious (fivefold) baptism from God.
After reading this book, the reader will appreciate the impact of what God does for us through His lavish grace.
When we come across baptize or baptism while
reading and studying God’s Word, here are the questions we should ask: What
baptism? What is the message of the text? Is the term referring to an action, a
concept, or a result? There are five baptisms in Scripture: water, Trinity,
Holy Spirit, fire, and blood. All these baptisms have different facets and
characteristics, so as we come across the term baptism in the
text, we must decipher how it applies to what the author is trying to
convey.
As believers and followers of Christ, we must
understand and grasp the meaning of how each baptism is used. As the
understanding of the five baptisms becomes clearer, a deeper knowledge of God’s
grace evolves. God’s Word becomes more meaningful and relevant when an expanded
meaning of baptism is used in the appropriate context. Understanding the
biblical significance and meaning of all five baptisms is critical if we are to
fully understand how to live the Christian life and follow the Lord.
