INDISPUTABLE – An African-American Flight Attendant Experience is an inspiring and unflinching memoir that blends personal stories, cultural insight, and historical context, shedding light on both the challenges and triumphs of African-American flight attendants.
From early struggles for representation to moments of spiritual awakening, INDISPUTABLE offers a powerful reminder that visibility, purpose, and faith can transform the course of a life — and an industry.
Many days, more often than not, I
find myself the only Black flight attendant working a flight. In the beginning
of my career, it was easy for me to feel like I had to work twenty times harder
than my fellow White flight attendants. The mindset I implemented was patience,
tolerance, and turning a negative into a positive. Sure, there will be some
people who won’t allow the positive attitude to happen. Just smile, or don’t
smile if it feels wrong, and let it roll off your back. Become innovative;
leverage setbacks to spur greater advantages.
As a seasoned flight attendant, I found myself humbled and
turned into a “servant leader,” empowered to make a difference. I do this by
displaying concern, listening to fellow employees, trying to accommodate the
public, and making a first and lasting impression of myself and the company.
We’re here to serve not just our customers but also our
coworkers, which in turn allows the company to grow in strength and value to
its employees and community. I’ve always had my own mind, and it comes
naturally for me to help others if I see someone in need. While working my
flights, most passengers were very accepting to the point where some would say
they were glad to see me.
Do you see me? I’m different from you, but if this plane
goes down, it won’t matter what color I am, because we all bleed the same
color.
A Detroit native, Veronica received the Key to the City of Detroit for her work performing for U.S. troops around the world on USO/DOD tours, where she uplifted service members through music and ministry. She was later recognized by the Detroit City Council for her contribution to the reelection campaign of Mayor Coleman A. Young and her participation in the City of Detroit television ad “Power for Tomorrow,” where she performed alongside music legends Aretha Franklin and Levi Stubbs of The Four Tops.
Her artistic journey gained attention across parts of Europe with her debut album “That’s Just The Way It Is”, featuring the hit singles “Last 2 Know” and “Words That You Say”, and an appearance on a compilation album alongside Michael McDonald and other renowned artists. After years of performing across Europe, Asia, Israel, and Africa, Veronica transitioned into aviation — a career that would span nearly three decades across major U.S. airlines.
Both books reflect Veronica’s continuing mission to inspire readers through faith, empowerment, and divine purpose.
