Jahnes, an experienced mercenary at the peak of his profession, encounters an unstoppable foe, and his defeat leads him to question his life’s path. Holing up at a country inn to recover from his injuries, he becomes intrigued by the landlady, a woman of strength and compassion. As the months go by their relationship develops, and he begins to dream of a new life as an innkeeper.
But his unique talents and experience are needed to save the kingdom from attack by fierce savages from the high southern plains. Just when he is getting used to his new life, his old life reaches for him and offers him challenge and success such as he never dreamed of.
Of course, in order to satisfy the needs of his kingdom and his new family, he first has to stay alive.
The Innkeeper’s Husband is a standalone novel, part of the Petrellan Saga.

Review

This novel could benefit from a face-lift of the book cover. It comes across as a bit juvenile while the story itself is not even close to that. That is just my observation, and I will admit I am a bit of a cover fanatic.

One thing that is wonderfully done is the way the blurb completely draws in the reader and then the novel itself delivers on that. I was intrigued by the blurb and then satisfied by the novel.

I like that Jahnes is a man who wants to settle down and move on from his past, but it has a way of finding him and he knows his duty is to help where he can.

There is action and anticipation throughout the last 3/4 of the novel for sure!
