Successful, college educated men in their twenties and thirties are admitted to psychiatric institutions claiming to be angels in a satanic army. They know their rank, mission, and commanding officer. Many had no prior religious background. Friends, Jonathan Hart, a reporter, and Charles Atwater, a psychologist collaborate on studying these patients with Angelic Psychotic Disorder. They discover that what they call the Dark Angel movement has people placed in the highest levels of government. The book examines the ease of which a charismatic leader promising peace could persuade people to give up their individual rights. It questions the strength of faith, what normal people are capable of when confronted with enormous challenge, and the impact on individual relationships.

EXCERPT

Prologue

OVER THREE GENERATIONS, the Hart family has given the world Thomas Hart, a celebrated documentarian, William Hart, a religious studies professors, and Jonathan Hart, an investigative journalist. Their lives were all impacted by Dr. Aaron Davis. He founded an organization called the Brotherhood of Man that united the religions of the world into one “true religion.” His sister Esther Davis, William’s mother, was an offi cer of the parent corporation and one-fourth owner making her a formidable and wealthy woman.

The Brotherhood became a powerful political organization creating a large military peacekeeping force. When the United States and other countries refused to give up their nuclear weapons, the Brotherhood attempted to force them militarily.

Tom Hart met Esther when he worked on the Aaron Davis Show at the Christian Media Broadcasting Network owned by Dr. Davis. He left the show when he discovered that Aaron and Esther had been involved in a sexual relationship since she was a young girl. Esther came to realize she was a victim and aft er undergoing counseling resigned her position at the Brotherhood.

She and Tom became involved and released a documentary revealing the truth about Aaron and the Brotherhood. Aaron attempted to kill her for her betrayal but was wounded in the attack, and the Brotherhood became a shell of its former self. Esther and Tom married and had a son, William. He becomes a religious studies professor and was desperate to atone for his uncle’s legacy. He found references in Dr. Davis’s doctoral dissertation papers of a lost manuscript believed to be an alternate version of the book of Revelation. He soon discovered that Paul Rutledge, a powerful Satanist, was also searching for the lost text and would stop at nothing to obtain it.

William married Margaret, and they had a son, Jonathan, who unknowingly is thrust into the family business of saving the world.
