PROMO: Quantum Roots II

Fiction, Satire
Date Published:  February 2017

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

In this sequel to Quantum Roots, the meekish Olan Chapman faces danger as vigilante Samuel Leroy McCoy, a US deputy marshal who upheld law and order in 1876, Dodge City.

The metamorphous holds an eerie transformation, cloaked with rolling sagebrush and horse whinnies from yesteryear, which causes DPA Director, Alexis Grumman to rethink the validity of worm holes.

"Creation is a worm hole," replies Dr Norman Daly, "Atoms require hadrons to form a nucleus, and each hadron comes through it's own worm hole. Two quarks form the bi-dimensional plane needed to support the hole. The remaining quark squeezes through this hole, after which the first two quarks follow to shape the hadron to a given genetic, configuration. The hole then closes to divide time from timeless."

The gunfighter is wanted for multiple killings, a consequence that keeps the slender computer wizard on the run from authorities - and domineering wife, Ivy Chapman.

As in Quantum Roots, aka The Vigilante Sightings, Quantum Roots II is based on mounting evidence that people form from recycled energy.
Other Books in the Quantum Roots Series:

Federal agents, Alexis Grumman and Jeremy Wade track down a current day vigilante, whose fingerprints match those of a Korean War veteran. Author Kyle Keyes uses characters from two previous novels, to promote a theory that particle energy formats with a quantum root system, that can bypass time and space. Keyes believes that such fiction could turn to fact as we move into the age of quantum mechanics. Adventure fans everywhere should delight in this fast paced action story, that brings yesterday's gun play back to settle cyber-age injustice. Synopsis: Jesse Joe Jacks was born sometime during the snow blizzard of 1923. The Lower Elk County, game warden died from a lightning strike on July 23, 1959, while wearing a sheriff's star. Olan Chapman came to life in August of 1974 and found a computer career with a center city, electronics firm. Chapman drinks heavy and is haunted by flashbacks of an older sister, lost to an unsolved case of gang rape and murder. Jacks loved nature and lived to protect wildlife. He stood tall and fought to uphold justice. Jacks was also a crack shot with a firearm - any firearm. Chapman attends the theatre, plays piano and at one time led a march against the National Rifle Association. Both men have the same fingerprints, much to the chagrin of Lt General Alexis Grumman who heads the federal department for para-normal activities. Working with special agent, Jeremy Wade, Grumman breaks open the case when Chapman's fingerprints also match those of the vigilante.

About the Author

Born To Write:

Older Americans often come from whistle stop towns painted by Norman Rockwell. Kyle Keyes grew up in Clayton, a South Jersey borough first founded as Fislerville.  Clayton had a small urban district with street lights, but no indoor plumbing. Farmland and outhouses were a sign of the times.

Clayton was so small, that Keye's aunt doubled as his Sixth Grade school teacher, who once said that Kyle lived with his nose between the bookends. She must have known something.

Keyes went to Temple Tech for concrete and steel design in 1956 and 1957. He never became an engineer, but still has a red, tinker toy motor and his World War II, Erector Set.

The early Sixties found Kyle in the U.S. Army where his top sergeant would daily bark, "You just say morning, trooper. I'll decide if it's good or not!"

Keyes wholesaled bakery products to food chains for thirty years, and wrote odd items for local newspapers. He is widowed and currently lives in Florida. He has two children, Kathleen and Daniel. Grand children are now grown and too old for tales about railroads and yesterday's America. This leaves Keyes no option but to write books.

Se la ve.

PS: Should you need a book autographed, Kyle can usually be found rooting through neighborhood trash cans, one block ahead of the recycle truck.

Teaser Tuesday: Chosen Path

Erotic Romance
Date Published: 4/28/2017

Yumiko Itsumoto wants it all. An accomplished artist and feared attorney, she gets what she wants, all else be damned. Now she wants love, even if it means charting a new course for her life, but changing course can be dangerous.  In mere moments, she tumbles from the dizzying pinnacle of success into a bottomless abyss of murder and treachery.  Yumiko will not live happily ever after—not this time—but can she at least find a way to stay alive?

EXCERPT

Jun gave me a towel, with which I wrapped up my hair, and a yukata, one of his. Its sleeves hung well past my hands, but its hem did not drag the ground. I decided to go ahead and indulge. I’d had a difficult night. A little smear of grease on my back would do the trick. I worked as quickly as I could to remove the rest, but it still took me perhaps twenty or thirty minutes.
I emerged from the bathroom with a much-improved mood.
Jun lived in a modest flat, sparsely decorated in Japanese style: tatami flooring and rice-paper screens to separate (or not) a small bedroom from the tearoom. I liked it. He had put on a yukata as well and sat formally in the tearoom. I duly went to the first guest position and knelt.
“Do you have any citric acid?”
He blinked and asked, “Citric acid?” I had woken poor Jun from a sound sleep and it seemed he was still trying to gather his wits.
In my gentlest voice, I said, “Yes. I was unable to remove all of the grease from my skin. If I might further impose upon your hospitality, I would be grateful for your help with it. Citric acid, lemon juice if you have it, might break down the grease more readily than soap.”
He stood and walked toward his small kitchen. I turned my back to him and widened my stance to sit directly on the ground with my feet beside me, and I opened my yukata to drop it from my shoulders and expose my deliberate grease smear. Holding the yukata up with the crooks of my elbows, I crossed my arms over my chest and turned my head down. His steps halted when he saw me. His voice, when he spoke, bore more confidence than his approaching footfalls.
“I would be honored to provide you with whatever counsel I can, Itsumoto-san.”
“Thank you, Jun-san,” I said, “and please call me Yumi.”
“Will you tell me of the matter?”
I inhaled to fill the hollow in my chest and kept silent, tasting enjoyment in dabs of cold lemon juice against my back, softer than raindrops. I’d have all day to tell my tale before he finished, and part of me wanted to drag it out. The better part of me wanted to rip the band-aid off and be done with it.
“I was in the subway yesterday. There was a woman next to me. She was killed by a passing train. I believe I will be charged with her murder.”
“Why would you be charged?”
Another deep breath did nothing to fill my chest. It was hard enough admitting my mistake, a mistake made in the making of another mistake. I had to tell him the unconfessed secret of my heart. In a way, sitting half-naked in front of him made it easier to let go of my pride.
“I believe she was engaged to marry a man I previously dated—a past lover. I had gone to his home yesterday hoping I could reconcile myself to him. When I got there, someone, I believe it was this woman, was there with him. I left without announcing myself. It seems she left not long after I did and intended to catch the same train as me.
“After the incident, I ran. That was foolish. I was scared, shocked, and not thinking clearly. I have not been sleeping well. I had not slept for perhaps a week. This insomnia has affected my mental state. I did not intend to kill her, but I stood to benefit from her death. There were witnesses. I paid my PASMO with a credit card. The police will be able to determine who I am.”
Jun’s hands on my back remained timid, but his voice reassured. “Your situation may not be so dire as you believe it, Yumiko-san, but I can understand how it troubles you.”
The room filled with silence until I deemed it thick enough to call attention to my next statement.
“Jun,” I said, “when a woman takes off her clothes and kneels before you, it’s safe to assume you can drop the honorific.”
“I never assume facts not in evidence.”
I sighed and gave instructions. “I want you to call me Yumi. I want you to press hard against the stain on my back and scrub until I am clean.”
He did as I told him, taking my shoulder in one hand to steady me and grinding into the grease with his other. Sooner than I might have liked, a smear of cold water slid up my back, and the collar of my yukata patted me dry. I gave him further instructions.
“I also want you to fuck my brains out.”
His hands snapped back.
I waited him out, wandering my gaze along the weave of his tatami floor. Eventually he spoke.
“Will you not be needing them?”
I liked the innocence of his question, so I answered earnestly. “They have functioned poorly in recent times.” I waited again to hear his next quandary.
“I would think it a difficult thing to do to a woman of your considerable intellect.”
“Take your time.”
I waited while he tried to think through what was happening, seemingly as disturbed by his own unanticipated circumstances as I had been by mine the night before. Clammy fingertips, followed by their palm, touched down high on my back and slid haltingly up my shoulder and alongside my neck. I tilted my head up, yielding to the almost imperceptible push of his index finger under my jaw. He followed, and I continued until I craned my neck back as far as it would go.
When his fingertips drew gently against my throat, I went with them instead of letting them drag against my skin. I kept leaning, transferring my weight onto my toes, which pointed back along the floor by my sides.
Flipping over my toes to set my weight on my spine and straighten my knees from that position is always an awkward move. Jun was unprepared for how suddenly I fell backward when my weight transferred, but he caught me with a hand behind my neck before my head hit the floor. That was just as well because his abrupt catch knocked the towel free from my hair and just in time because I held my back still fully arched and would have driven my head hard into the mat.
I’d left my hands in my lap, straightening my elbows as he bent me backward, leaving my torso bare in front of him. My yukata, folded inward over my thighs, provided only a pretense of modesty. His eyes struggled not to wander while I stared up at him, so I closed mine to let his have their way. I’d told him to take his time, so I parted my lips and waited.
“Did you do it?”
My eyelids rocked open. “You ask your clients if they’re guilty?”
“I’m asking you.”
I closed my eyes again and rolled my spine downward, relaxing my back to the floor. “Nice dodge.”
“Likewise,” he volleyed. “Shall we play again?”
“I’d rather not.”
“Then answer my question.”
His hand behind my neck firmed and steadied and was soon joined by his other hand to cradle my head. Jun had no idea how to handle a woman, but he knew exactly what to do with a hostile witness.
I had to tell him, and he knew it. I was the one asking him for help. He could simply decline and be rid of me. Something inside him clamped down and turned to stone. He was awake now, and our little back-and-forth spanned the full width of his patience. It takes a hard man to set murderers free every day and still look at himself in the mirror.
I drew a slow breath to show him I would answer. I needed a hard man. I was a murderer.

They are now on the lookout for the real stalker, who becomes braver with each passing day, always in shadows, never creeping into the light...
They fear he might be back to finish what he started...sending Laney to an early grave.

Excerpt

“Can you hear me, Laney? Is there anyone home inside that pretty little head of yours?”
The fog dissipated as Laney heard the familiar voice.
“You’re so innocent lying there in that bed. I know the truth about you. You’re not innocent, and you don’t deserve to be with that handsome doctor.”
Why is this voice so familiar? Who is it? Why is she here?
Laney sensed this person wasn’t good. Perhaps even dangerous. Her heart pounded in her chest like a jackhammer. She could hear the sound in her ears. The fight or flight response kicked in. Laney willed her body to move to be able to get up and run away or fight back. To no avail, her body refused to respond. She just lay there like a prisoner in a cell and listening to the person talking.
“He’s mine. You got that? He was mine before you came into the picture, and he’ll be mine when you’re gone. You’d better heed my warning and walk right out of his life.”
So this person wants to be with Josh. Is she an ex-girlfriend? Holy crap! What’ve I gotten myself into?
“How could he be interested in a train wreck like you? He deserves better than a little slut. You’re nothing! Yet you monopolize all of his time. Maybe if I just get rid of you, he won’t spend so much time in here.”
The medications weighed on Laney making it difficult to think clearly. She felt intoxicated.
“I see your parents have arrived. Are they taking you home with them? You should go. It’s better for you to be far away from here. You’ll be safer there, and all of your problems will disappear. If you stay, these unfortunate events may continue to occur. Is that what you want?”
The woman was leaning over Laney. The warmth of her breath spewed across her face. Peppermint. Her breath reeked of peppermint like the breath mints one got at a restaurant after dinner. Hands formed around her neck. Laney wanted to push them away, yet she was frozen. She couldn’t do anything to stop her. She couldn’t open her eyes even though she wanted to so badly. The pounding in her head grew louder and faster. Her heart was about to jump out of her chest. All of a sudden, the peppermint and hands left. She was gone. It was silent except for the alarming from her monitor. Time seemed to stand still before someone turned the alarm off.
“Jesus, your heart rate is too high. What’s happening?” It was a different voice. Perhaps a nurse. Someone who knew how to operate the machines. She pressed buttons and the alarms stopped. A heaviness seeped into Laney’s veins and spread throughout her body. She struggled to fight it. She needed to be awake and find out the identity of the peppermint woman. The more she struggled, the foggier her world became. Silence took over Laney’s world, preventing her from feeling or thinking.

PROMO: 5 Essential Dimensions

Nonfiction Self -Help
Date Published: August 2016

 photo add-to-goodreads-button_zpsc7b3c634.png

This book unveils an amazing theory. Our lives have five dimensions that are essential for living a healthy, successful, and tranquil existence. These are our financial, social, internal, physical, and spiritual affairs. This book offers insight into helping us recognize the five life dimensions. It will teach us how to bring these dimensions into balance. We cannot reach our potential as individuals unless all five of these life dimensions are balanced. If we neglect any one of them, the ensuing disharmony destroys our tranquility and can wreck our lives. The 5 Essential Dimensions is an attempt to prevent this happening.

Excerpt

If you happen to be a good cook, you’d know that it is not necessary for each individual ingredient of a broth to taste good on its own. Some may be bitter, others sour, or sharp. But by combining them in a recipe you achieve a delicious result. The secret is in having a recipe that balances all the constituent elements to achieve a whole that is far better than the individual ingredients. The same applies to all walks of life. A car factory may be greasy and noisy, but from it rolls a succession of perfect, shiny, beautiful machines.

It is possible to achieve balance in our lives, but to do so we need to ask the right questions. Do not ask “How do I make money?” Instead, ask “How do I achieve equilibrium in my monetary affairs?” Because searching for equilibrium reveals the wisest course to follow, no matter what the issue.

Many people focus so much on trying to make money that they sacrifice either social equilibrium or spiritual equilibrium in the process. They help no one, and ignore morality. Take drug dealers, for example; they make money, but they do it by a process that destroys families, and offends both morality and society. Their very existence is a threat to others.

Similarly, the man who makes money but does it at the expense of taking the time to raise his children properly, or looking after his parents, or being attentive to his wife; such a person destroys his social equilibrium.

He is wealthy, but cannot be considered successful. If he neglects important areas of his life and focuses just on one, he is like a student who learns only one subject. He may excel at chemistry, but will fail all his other exams, and will be unfit for the world of work.

If we make equilibrium our goal we will avoid this failure. We will accord each aspect of our life the value it is due, without trampling on the others. We will pursue money only up to the point that it maintains our financial equilibrium. And when our needs are met we will address other areas that require our attention. In this way, we will maintain our internal equilibrium.

Book Tour: Fixing Sydney

Young Adult Romantic Suspense
Date Published:  August 1 2016

Sydney Sommer’s world fell apart after senior prom. Since then, her life had become a constant loop of unfortunate scenarios that kept her in constant fear of what might be lurking around the next corner. Her trust in others was at a standstill. Even those who were closest to her were held at a distance.
After serving active duty overseas, Jaxon Triggs moved away from his hometown, hoping the change in scenery would help him build a new future for himself. What he wasn’t expecting was to fall for a girl who was broken.
From the first moment Jaxon laid eyes on Sydney, he was curious. He became determined to do everything he could to break through the armor Sydney held around her so securely. His instinct to protect her and keep her safe kicked in as the dangers she encountered became more personal.
With dread always looming close by and secrets discovered, would Sydney be able to handle the new changes in her life yet heal at the same time?

Review

In a genre that is overrun by the same story told in a different way, I really enjoyed the freshness of Fixing Sydney.

Sydney is damaged but not a lost cause. I love that Jaxon sees that in her and is willing to take the risk.  She never expected a connection to form between her and Jaxon and she is hesitant, understandably so.

One of the main things that appealed to me is the authenticity in the way they fell for each other. These two really did start out as two people just trying to make it through life and ended up steadily falling more and more for one another. It was so believable and the pacing in that aspect alone was spot on.

How imaginative, heartbreaking, mysterious, and Romantic this novel was.

Blog Tour: Sunset Reads: Damian & Layla

Contemporary Romance/Suspense
Date Published: 12/26/2016

One year.
It’s been one year since Agent Damian Trent left for Washington without a word.
One year since he’s seen her beautiful face.
One year since he’s heard his name on her lips.
He's been recently called back to New York City on assignment, to catch a criminal who’s trying to infiltrate Sunset Reads. The last thing he expects is to work side by side with the woman he turned his back on.
Having her close is an unwanted distraction that he’s more than willing to ignore, if only she wasn’t so damn tempting.
Everything seems under control, until a night of feverish passion has him abandoning all thoughts of reason. Now, he will do everything in his power to get her back, and even more so to protect her.

Layla Reece wants nothing to do with the man who left her a year ago.
The man who took her heart with him, leaving her broken.
After a year of trying to forget Damian Trent, she is finally ready to move on.
But trying to forget him becomes a tedious task when he suddenly reappears in her life.
Although she fights to stay away, his magnetism is too strong and she finds herself giving into the deep timbre of his voice, and the strength and safety of his arms.
Staying away from Damian turns out to be futile, especially when his kisses consume her and his heart shatters the walls she spent so much time building.
Finding herself in danger, she now has to turn to the only man she trusts to keep her safe, but can she trust him enough to give him her heart once again?

Review

I truly enjoyed everything about Damian and Layla's story and was blown away how this one has outdone the first. Damian now has to come to terms with the pain he caused in the past. Is there a way to mend what is so broken?

While there was a bit of jumping around in time and experiences, the story still managed to be surprisingly easy to follow.

I really think that she nailed her characters and made sure they were multi-dimensional and powerful enough to impact the reader.

I always love a novel that can bring in a Suspense Element and not have it overrun the Romance. I think that D.C. Triana really managed to efficiently do that.
